Back to the world atlas

On the United States page, the 1912 New York entry for The Monkey and the Crocodile marks where Ellen C. Babbitt’s English retelling of a Buddhist Jātaka was published. The 1910 Hawaii entry for Māui opens a fishing verse in Westervelt’s collection that names Hawaii. The two records show how a map pin can identify a place of publication or a place named in the text.
