Origin and tradition

Berlin, present-day Germany

In both editions, Snow White wakes when the piece of apple comes loose. In 1812, a servant tired of carrying the coffin strikes her. In 1857, the bearers stumble. The same outcome follows two different actions, one driven by anger and the other by accident.
