Origin and tradition

Najd, Saudi Arabia · regional record

Al Riyadh’s 2024 article sets two tellings from central Saudi Arabia side by side. In Abdulkarim al-Juhayman’s collection, Crow pins fresh dates on thorns. Fox retaliates by spreading a soft dish on a flat stone, where Crow’s beak strikes the surface. In al-Abudi’s collection, Fox sends the first invitation. The order changes, but how the food is served still decides who can eat it.
