The Nyagassola entry on the Guinea page introduces the sacred Sosso-Bala, associated with the transmission of the Sunjata epic. UNESCO describes the balafon, whose wooden keys have gourds beneath them, and its preservation in the village. Alongside the printed Sunjata record from Bamako, it gives the Atlas a place for both musical transmission and transcription.
