Origin and tradition

In Gilbert Manipa’s tale, Wanto entrusts a small antelope to Gbason, the only keeper of goats. Later Gbason says the animal escaped. They turn to a judge when they cannot agree. In Roulon-Doko’s published account, the judge awards Wanto the goats with a mark by the eye. The herd becomes the marriage gift that Wanto had been unable to obtain by hunting.
