Origin and tradition
A literary tale by Croatian author Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić.
In the 1916 text, the snake keeps her forked tongue when she becomes a young woman. The mother spots it and her son dismisses the warning. Stribor later offers the mother her youth and her village back. To take that life she would have to forget her son. Her answer gives meaning to the rule announced at the beginning. A transformation starts the marriage, while the memories that bind a mother to her son decide what happens to the forest.
