Origin and tradition
Vatican · Room of Heliodorus fresco
In the Acts of the Apostles, an angel leads Peter past sleeping guards. Raphael uses different sources of light to guide the eye across the wall. The Uffizi identifies this fresco as an inspiration for Francesco Albani’s painting of 1650–1660. In the painting, moon, torch and angel bring the escape to a smaller surface.
