Origin and tradition
Tunis, Tunisia
The contents of the 1949 Tunis collection list Ommi Sissi and her cat among the animal tales. In the 2013 Arabesques adaptation, the cat eats couscous and has to find grapes in return. In Praline Gay-Para’s 2024 French edition, it drinks a bowl of milk and tries to replace it. Changing the food changes the cat’s first stop, while the rhythm of one request leading to the next survives.
