Origin and tradition

Mauritian Bhojpuri storytelling tradition.

In one telling a milk seller turns to stone after revealing the secret of dancing fairies. In another a bridegroom angers the fairies and the wedding party becomes a mountain chain. The same landscape carries two stories, one about a promise and the other about a boast.
