In Gale’s 1913 edition, a merchant takes a boat to buy seaweed. On the shore he meets a man who pulls himself aboard. A question from the merchant sends the story into the past and gives the floor to the survivor. In the preface, Gale introduces the sea adventure by comparing it with Sinbad.
