Origin and tradition
South Africa · Eastern Cape region
In Theal’s record, his mother first thinks her ears are ringing. The repeated request makes her realise that she is hearing someone else. As soon as Hlakanyana is born, he finds his father and asks him for meat himself. The opening follows a child who keeps speaking when nobody can see him and keeps asking when the people who can see him still do not know who he is.
