George McCall Theal’s second edition of 1886 gives Hlakanyana and The Bird That Made Milk separate chapters. In one, a child asks for meat before birth. In the other, the question is who in the household gets to drink the bird’s milk. The Atlas links to the tales separately and notes the two tellings of the milk-giving bird in the collection.
