Origin and tradition

Armenian storytelling tradition

In Seklemian’s 1898 edition, a prince goes from house to house looking for the owner of a golden slipper. The stepmother hides the young woman in a pit used as an oven. As the prince leaves, the rooster perches over the door and gives away her hiding place. The fit identifies her. The rooster gives her the chance to try the slipper.
