Two tales from Tripoli’s Arabic storytelling tradition reached Andrew Lang’s English anthology through Hans Stumme’s 1898 collection. Udea’s story begins with a misleading signal seen from afar. Jamila’s begins with an iron mortar found in the woods. The English anthology first appeared in 1900. The linked digital copy reproduces the 1905 reprint.
