The Latvia page has two Lāčplēsis records. Andrejs Pumpurs’s epic appeared during Latvia’s song festival in 1888. Aleksandrs Rusteiķis’s 1930 silent film brought the hero’s name and struggle to the screen. The two dates trace how an epic reached audiences as a book and a film.
