Counts reflect the Atlas catalogue. A link may represent a recording, a publication or an association with a local tradition.
The Iran records include a Shahnama scene you can follow without reading a line. On the Met’s folio of about 1330–1340, Zal and his father occupy different levels of the picture. The catalogue attributes the page to Iran, probably Isfahan. The pictured nest in the Elburz mountains is the setting of the episode. These are two different ways a place enters the Atlas.
