According to Kershaw’s introduction, Hammershaimb wrote down the Nornagest ballad from oral recitation at Sumbø on his 1847–1848 visit. He compared what he heard with other records before publishing the result in Copenhagen in 1851. The Sumbø pin marks the place of recording, and the 1851 date identifies the printed result.
