How does it work in the tale?
An ordinary tool carries the danger the court tries to remove. The heroine’s first encounter with it raises a question about how a prohibition is understood by the next generation.
Why is a spindle still in the palace?
In Sleeping Beauty, the king bans spinning tools. The princess finds an old woman spinning in a tower. In Perrault, the woman has never heard the order. This detail shows how a command meant to reach everyone fails to reach one room.
