Little Red Riding Hood

In short: The girl who meets a wolf on her way to visit her grandmother.

Character

How does it work in the tale?

Her red hood makes her recognisable. Perrault leaves the wolf unpunished, while the huntsman changes the outcome in Grimm. The same heroine leads readers to very different endings.

How do the 1697 and 1857 endings differ?

Perrault’s 1697 edition ends with the wolf prevailing and adds a moral. In the Grimms’ 1857 text, a huntsman rescues the girl and her grandmother. The Atlas lists these editions as separate records.
