Origin and tradition
Russian storytelling tradition
Curtin’s text describes the clothes and jewels in Vassilissa’s room before turning to the grass she wants to see outside. With permission she passes through the open gate and steps away from her attendants to pick blue flowers. When the whirlwind rises, the people from the palace lose sight of her. Readers follow it beyond rivers and kingdoms and learn where she has gone while the court is still wondering.
