Origin and tradition
A legend attached to the peaks on the Liechtenstein–Austria border. Planken reproduces Büchel’s telling from Seger’s collection, while a Vorarlberg hiking publication records a different telling.
In the account reproduced by Planken, three sisters go berry picking and hear the bells for a feast day. Mary turns them to stone after they refuse her request for help. In the Vorarlberg telling, a magician brings about the transformation. In both tellings the three peaks make the ending visible in the landscape.
