Origin and tradition

Czechia · storytelling tradition

In the tale Baudiš credits to Kulda, a young man takes home a dove from a sorcerer’s pond. He removes its feathers and hides them in a wall, and the dove becomes a princess. When his mother gives her back the feathers, she flies away and he sets out after her. Whoever holds the feathers determines who can leave. Baudiš’s collection brings this Moravian telling into English.
