Origin and tradition
A Buddhist tradition associated with Taktsang in Bhutan’s Paro valley, retold in the Tourism Council’s 2021 report.
The Buddhist account tells of Guru Rinpoche landing on a cliff above Paro on the back of a tiger. In Bhutan’s official tourism telling, his companion takes the form of a tigress. The cliff is the end of their journey. The name Tiger’s Nest holds both the flight and the landing in one place name.
