Origin and tradition
An oral tradition associated with ʻUvea, Wallis. The 2020 Pacific Community report and the 2021 Îles lettrées booklet record different tellings.
Tagaloa goes fishing, but his net lifts ʻUvea from the sea floor. In both accounts the net left behind becomes the reef. The 2020 account explains four passes as well: fish escape and leave openings in the net. I’m Black Horse. If you drew the island’s shore, where would you leave gaps in the net?
