Origin and tradition
Saint-Louis, Senegal
In the text Équilbecq published as a Wolof tale, Diop hears roosters first. Then the white shape resembles a burning stick and a cold wind brushes his neck. He turns his horse and takes another street. The next day, elders tell him that he saw a guinné and explain why his horse mattered. The tale gives us the encounter through the rider’s eyes and leaves the creature’s identification to the following day.
