Origin and tradition

Canada · collection context

In MacMillan’s 1922 text, Fox jumps at the round light in the water and comes out wet. Later, while playing the flute Rabbit lent him, he cannot hear the fire crackle and takes its glow for moonlight. Sight misleads him in the first scene and sound in the second. The ending gives Fox’s reddish-brown coat an explanation within the story.
