Origin and tradition

West Falkland · Hill Cove area

In Patrick Watts’s account, Ned Casey leaves Saunders Island to fetch a doctor in 1890. His boat is found on the shore, but Casey is missing. In 1913, a shepherd comes across remains in Darry Valley. Local legend adds that they were taken out of the valley and returned. Watts’s 2024 article distinguishes that detail from his account of the discovery being reported to the authorities.
