Origin and tradition

Marigot · storyteller’s home town

In Les Fruits de Mer’s account of Samuel Saty’s telling, the chicken serves Cockroach a thick starchy drink called pap. When the trick comes to light, the meal takes a different turn and the chicken swallows the insect. The detail of the drink brings an everyday food into a scene where animals behave like people.
