Origin and tradition

A Qatari pearling tale associated with Al Khor. The year 2023 dates the Qatar Museums animation.

Both Mai and Ghaylan outfit boats for pearl diving. The Qatar Museums animation ties their rivalry to the invention of the sail. In another telling discussed in The Gulf Pearl, Mai devises a small sail and Ghaylan a large one, each inspired by a different wing of a grasshopper. The story gives more than one answer to the question of who invented the sail.
