Origin and tradition

A landmark legend associated with La Hougue Bie in Jersey, published in English in 1829.

The lord of Hambye defeats the dragon. His companion claims the credit and brings the widow a letter he says her husband wrote. What the man says in his sleep one night undoes his story. In the legend, the chapel on La Hougue Bie recalls this second part of the tale.
