Origin and tradition

Carniola, Slovenia

In this Carniolan telling, people want to decide for themselves when to rise and work. After the rooster leaves, its warning about a lake remains. Later, people hoping to increase the rivers’ flow break an egg. The water that pours out turns the valley into a lake. In his 1889 edition Wratislaw cites an 1858 issue of Neven.
