Origin and tradition

Iceland · Berlin collection

In the 1919 collection, the cloth is due on the first day of summer. The woman’s husband hears a noise among the rocks and looks through a crack. The weaver repeats her own name as she works. He writes it on a slip of paper. His wife gives two other names before saying Gilitrutt on the third try. Both the sound of the loom and the order of the guesses matter.
