Origin and tradition

Anglesey, Wales · approximate

In Emerson’s 1894 text the fairies settle near a spring on Mona. The queen places the people under the spell in the inner ring and the fairies in the middle one. She takes the outer ring herself. The procession begins with singing and is followed by the visit to the water. There is a ring outside the witch’s house too. It shares the shape of the rings by the spring, but the witch uses it to lure people into a trap.
