Origin and tradition
Norway · storytelling tradition
In the illustrated English collection of Asbjørnsen and Moe from 1914, the young woman cannot consult a map for the castle she seeks. The East, West and South Winds send her on to another wind. The North Wind knows the place and tries to carry her across the sea. The same question is asked at each stop, but the help changes.
