Origin and tradition

Gaza, Palestine

In Muhawi and Kanaana’s 1989 collection, the teller opens with a call for a blessing and the audience replies. Inside the tale, Hasan also offers a greeting before someone helps him. In both scenes, words set a journey in motion. The collection’s notes identify the teller as a sixty-five-year-old woman from Gaza.
