Origin and tradition

A figure from Salvadoran oral tradition. The 2010 Kóot article describes the hearth, ash and backward feet.

Cipitío visits kitchens with wood fires to eat ash. His broad hat and backward feet give him away in different ways. One detail identifies him by sight. The other makes a puzzle out of which direction his tracks seem to go when he is out of sight.
