Origin and tradition
Chagossian oral music tradition. The archived performance is from Mauritius.
The University of Edinburgh’s Chagos archive presents the performance in Mauritius as “Mo ti ena 13 an dan Chagos”. The title takes the listener straight to the singer’s childhood. In the sega tambour tradition that UNESCO inscribed in 2019, songs carry the experiences and memories of the Chagossian community. On the Atlas, Mauritius marks the performance and Chagos the tradition to which the song belongs. Saminaden’s filmed performance is undated. The Group Tanbour Chagos album recording is dated 2018.
