Origin and tradition
A local story drawing on Cayman duppy traditions, printed in The Cayman Compass on 24 October 1973. The archive text does not name the town.
Two brothers cycle out to look for crabs at night. Under an almond tree, their torch lights up a pair of shoes first. Readers know that the duppy frightening the town is a man wearing a mask. The brothers do not have that information, so the same beam of light shows them something very different.
