Origin and tradition

A Maltese legend associated with Mosta and Cumbo Tower.

The story of a young woman abducted as her wedding approaches is associated with Cumbo Tower in Mosta. Zammit’s 1862 text calls her Angelica. In Muscat Azzopardi’s Maltese adaptation of 1879 she becomes Marianna. The two publication dates belong to the texts and are distinct from the date given to the raid within the legend.
