Mamadou Sall locates the collection of this tale on the Mauritanian bank of the Senegal River. Birama’s departure makes room for a life on the island and a relationship in which trust will be tested. In the 2005 edition, Claudie Guyennon-Duchêne interprets the river setting through copper engravings, cut-outs and collage.
