Origin and tradition
A house rumour recorded during an 1829 packet voyage to Bermuda. The map shows an approximate location.
A ship’s journal from Bermuda tells of a house people avoided after dark. Some sailors enter through broken windows and come away with a pile of books. The writer turns the rumour into a joke by hoping that a ghost, if there is one, might leave some books for him too.
