Little One found the puddle after the rain. It was round and shiny, right in the middle of the garden. Little One looked down. Something small and pink was in the water. It was a tiny shell. "Shells live in the sea," said Little One. "Not in puddles." So Little One put on a thinking face. This was a little mystery.

Then Little One saw tiny waves. Tip-tap, tip-tap went the water, all by itself. And there were footprints. Very, very small footprints. Smaller than bird feet. Smaller than beetle feet. "Somebody comes here," Little One whispered. "I will be quiet. I will be slow. I will watch and wait."
