Origin and tradition

In the Dede Korkut story, the blinded giant checks the flock at the cave entrance. Basat uses a ram’s skin to get out. The detail can be compared with the escape in the Odyssey. Odysseus clings underneath an animal, while Basat gets inside its skin. The sixteenth-century date in the Atlas refers to the surviving Dresden manuscript.
