Are AI bedtime stories safe for kids?

In short: AI stories can be safe when the app limits what the AI is allowed to write, keeps children's data private, has no ads or open chat and lets a parent review the result. Use the checklist below with any AI story app, including ours, and read the first stories yourself.

A checklist for parents

  • Content rules: does the app say what it will never write (violence, horror, romance, brands)?
  • Ads and tracking: are there any ads in a children's app?
  • Chat: can your child talk freely to the AI? Story-only is safer.
  • Data: what is collected about the child and can you delete it?
  • Review: can you read the story before your child does?
  • Sharing: are stories kept private unless you choose otherwise?

What Black Horse does

Stories follow written rules: no violence, horror, weapons, romance, brands or real people, with problems solved through kindness. There is no chat and there are no ads. Stories shared with the library are reviewed before they appear. Your child's own stories stay private to your account and you can delete your account and data at any time.

Limits to be honest about

AI can make mistakes, so look at stories before sharing them, especially the first few. If you find something unsuitable, report it in the app or on our contact page.
